On the second snowed in day of Christmas

We woke up Sunday morning to snow coming down again and we couldn’t believe it! We knew that the roads (at least from their house to ours) were passable if we went slow so we planned to go home that afternoon but wanted to make the most of our morning so everyone suited up and we got ready to go play outside!

Thankfully Mom and Dad have amassed a collection of ski clothes over the years and Charlie and I were outfitted almost 100% in snow clothes.  Everyone else had a smattering of regular clothes along with big jackets.  But poor Charlotte had next to nothing in the way of snow clothes because…. well, we live in Alabama! So we layered her up and hoped that it would be enough!  You’ll be glad to know that when we got back inside and peeled off all of her layers her legs were a little cool but nothing was wet and she didn’t appear to be too cold and warmed back up quickly!

So on to our adventure!

The girls!

Our family!  Jason had to stand on that side of us because the wind was fierce and coming from that direction so that way he blocked some of it from Charlotte and I!

Can you see Charlotte’s face?  She initially refused to get down in the snow so I sat down on the sled and then “accidentally” made her touch it.  When she stood up in it she was amazed!  So glad we got this on camera!

Another one of our family

I love this sweet picture!  Sorry for my shadow taking the picture but this is just precious.  Look at how many more steps she was taking than Jason and how little her feet are compared to his!  They were walking on the cart path so the snow was a more manageable depth.

Walking back

She was excited but I’m not sure you can see her smile!

Taking a walk with Memma

Once she got down she didn’t want to get back up!  So we came into Mom and Dad’s back yard and the snow was SO HIGH!  She definitely needed help picking her feet up enough to be able to take a step!

She was concentrating really hard too!

She finally acquiesed to a sled ride with Papa G! I don’t think Dad realized how much work it would be to pull an almost 25 pound girl around in 8 inch deep snow!  Thanks Dad!

Charlotte tried to take the sled herself but couldn’t get farther than this into the yard before she got stuck.

I sat down on the steps and Charlotte came down to sit next to me.  We quickly tried to get Jason next to us also but she wasn’t willing to stop playing that long.

At least she was having fun!

In case you aren’t familiar with Alabama weather, it is so so rare to get this much snow.  The last time there was snow like this on Christmas my Mom was 3 years old!  So we kept telling Charlotte that this probably wouldn’t happen again forever but, since she’s only 1 and a half, she didn’t get it, but I’m sure one day she’ll look back on these pictures and wish she could remember it!  But for us we will always hold such fond memories of this Christmas and all of the fun in the snow!

We came back inside and after we got warmed up Charlotte took one of her new Elmo dvd’s to Charlie and persistently said “Elmo! Elmo!” until he gave in and put it in.  It appears that even a 19 month old can glean who is in charge of the tv with complete accuracy!  🙂  Char-Char was even sweet enough to let her sit in his lap and watch some!

We did eventually go home so that we could get some rest but this was definitely a Christmas for the record-books!  I wish we had snow like that all the time!  Although it looks like if the weathermen (and weather-man Jason) are correct we might get MORE snow than that on Sunday night! I would typically not believe those kinds of predictions but Jason predicted the snow on Christmas almost to the inch so I’m more likely to trust him until the next time he predicts 4 inches and we only get a dusting! 🙂  We’re finding a snowsuit for Charlotte in any case so that we’ll be prepared if it does snow again!
