Charlotte’s First Day of School

Last week I posted Charlotte’s first day of school pictures but didn’t include much detail because I wanted to see how the rest of the day panned out.  So, to catch you up here are some of the cutie before school.  She’s got attitude and style, I tell you!

When we got to school she was so happy and excited at first.  She couldn’t wait to go and wanted to get her picture made on the bench by the front door.  But by the time we got to her class she was crying and I had to carry her into the room where her teacher picked her up.  But by the time I got to the front desk and the video monitors I could see her standing and watching the other kids so I didn’t think that she was still crying or trying to get to me.

There were a number of things that I promised Charlotte after her first day of school, namely a milkshake and a first day of school present (which is a tradition).  So I had to make sure I had all of my ducks in a row for that before I got there!  James stayed with Memma and Papa during drop off so that I could focus all of my attention on Charlotte, but he came with me to pick her up.  I was a little concerned that she might be in meltdown mode and I didn’t know how I would get both of them back to the car but I shouldn’t have worried!

I got to the classroom and watched from the edge of the door for a few minutes while they cleaned up.  One of Charlotte’s friends saw me and kept trying to tell her that her Mommy was here but Charlotte didn’t care and just kept picking up the toys.  Then when Mrs. B said that it was almost time to go Charlotte ran over and gave her a big hug and then went and gave Mrs. C a huge hug too.  It looked like she had fun to me since she was being that affectionate with her teachers!

When she finally noticed me she skipped over to the door but wouldn’t leave without giving both of her teachers another round of hugs.  And then on our way out to the car she looked up at me and said, “Mommy, why do we have to go home? I want to stay here!”  I consider that a very successful start to pre-school!

When we got to the car she was excited to open up her first day of school present.  This year’s was a big hit… Minnie’s Bowtique Bingo!

And she also enjoyed her vanilla milkshake all the way home!

I was surprised that she didn’t fall asleep during nap time after the first day, but I think she was just still too excited from her day.  She told me about getting to play on the big playground for the first time and singing the Peanut Butter song.  She also got a kick out of me not knowing the words to the Peanut Butter song and would mouth them and laugh because I couldn’t hear what she was saying!

I am so thankful that her adjustment to school went well.  She has the sweetest teachers and a great group of new friends in her class.  I know that she will learn a lot and grow a lot this year and I’m so thankful for the opportunity!  She was excited to go back every day last week, although by Thursday I think we were all a little burned out of the continuous getting up and getting ready.  I even picked her up in carpool line on Wednesday and Thursday and she did great!  Our next hurdle to jump is carpool drop off!  But that one will be forced this week when it starts raining!

Aw, yea for Charlotte! I, too, had a hard time figuring out how I was going to navigate pick up and drop off with both kiddos, but it worked out fine! Glad it did for you too!
