Charlotte, House

Construction Chronicles – Roughing It

This week started the “rough in” phase of the house.  All the windows are in and some doors are in.  The framers finished their work and the plumbers came and started their rough in job.  The cast iron tubs got placed and Charlotte was very excited to see hers.  Although, I think she was a little nervous that we weren’t going to clean it out before we gave her a bath in it!  She seemed a lot more excited about it after we promised that we would clean it before her first bath.

We did a walkthrough this week with the electrician and lighting company and are almost finished with our lighting selections.  We also did a walkthrough with the structured wiring guys and figured out all of our tv placements, phone jacks, etc.

It is so exciting to go every day and see something new in and so many people working to make our dream home into a reality.  We’re getting to the point where we need to finalize some decisions that have been “in the future” so we’re a little stressed trying to finish picking everything out and make everything work together.  But we are still enjoying the process!

Charlotte is handling everything remarkably well.  We’ve sold our house (I don’t remember if I’ve mentioned it) and are moving into Mom and Dad’s the week after Thanksgiving.  Charlotte doesn’t even seem to mind that we’re moving out since she gets to go and live with Memma and Papa.  We’ll see how smooth the transition is when moving day actually comes.  Mom and Dad are so generous to let us stay with them for the months before our house is ready.  Hopefully we won’t wear them out or cramp their style too much!

You might be able to tell in the weekly pictures that we had brick delivered at the end of last week and brick and trim are being started this week.  We’ve heard that it will take three weeks to finish bricking because there is A LOT of brickwork, but at least one of these pictures should look very different in next weeks pictures!

The true front of the house now that the library porch is framed.  We’re only still lacking the fireplace coming up next to the side porch.

Charlotte loves wearing her “lot boots” and checking out the new house!

She was very excited to see her new tub!
