Posts of the Week

I know I’ve been MIA lately.  I’m behind a week on the house progress and right now it seems like it’s too much to ask to keep my kids clean and clothed much less find time to blog.  I’m hoping to find some time this weekend but, for right now, this will have to do.

I’ve read some great posts around the internet recently and want to share some of my favorites.

The S Word that Ruins Most of Us by Jon Acuff on Stuff Christians Like
SCL is mostly a blog where Christians poke fun of themselves in a light-hearted manner so that we can all relax a little and get a grip.  But on Wednesday’s, Jon does a serious post and I loved this one about the true meaning of “Surrender” and what a lot of Christians (like me) tend to think surrender means vs what it actually does.  I loved the part when Jon said, “If the first thing God does to me is the worst thing I can imagine, I have the worst God….But what I’m starting to learn is that surrender isn’t just an act of releasing,  it’s an act of receiving.”  I wonder what God is waiting for me to surrender to Him before he can give me the absolutely best that he has?

The Yesterdays by Pete Wilson on Without Wax
Pete is a pastor at CrossPoint Church in Nashville, TN and surrounding areas and they just celebrated 10 years of their church.  He and his wife Brandi have really been motivating me via their blogs and tweets over the past two years and I love this post by Pete.  This Ralph Waldo Emerson quote that Pete quotes was a hearty reminder to me to forget my yesterdays and focus on today. (“Finish every day and be done with it.  You have done what you could.  Some blunders and some absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can.  Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.  This day is all that is good and fair.  It is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on the yesterdays.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson)

An Open Letter to New Mama Me by Beth on Five Kids is a Lot of Kids
Whether you’re a brand-new Mama or one with twenty years of experience, I bet you’ll find something to identify with in Beth’s post.  Her authenticity and the way that she says exactly what you need to hear is so refreshing and often helps alleviate some of the Mama isolation that I often feel and that she talks about.

The Election: Thoughts from a Christian Independent by Jen Hatmaker
While I will say that I very much lean to one side in my political leanings, I also backed almost everything that Jen says in her post.  And her comment that “four or eight years of an administration cannot compromise the historical work of a holy God”? Well that spoke truth to my heart and made me ashamed at how much importance I do actually place on the Presidency when I should be recognizing that God is on his throne no matter what.  Believe me, I know that often it’s hard for me to look past what an administration is going to do to our jobs or our money or our freedoms and instead focus on which will help usher in God’s kingdom on Earth more.  But Jen’s post makes me remember that this is not the end game.  Even if none of my candidates win, God still ultimately wins and He is still in control.
