Charlotte

Turning Four

I thought I’d try and wrap up Charlotte’s birthday today.  At almost a month after her birthday, I think I might, MIGHT, be finally have recovered from all of the drama.
We continued our celebrating after our family party, at Family Night the night before Charlotte’s birthday.  She opened her presents from Memma and Papa as well as a tetherball set from Char Char!  Charlotte’s birthday list varied over the months leading up to her birthday, but the end result was 1) a stuffed lamb since she got to pet a lamb at school and 2) Ariel shoes.  She was all smiles when she opened those and other surprises!

The next morning we started the morning with the traditional waking up to Mickey’s Splashdance “Happy Happy Birthday to You!”  Charlotte was excited about the song and we ended up listening to it almost non-stop the rest of the day!  We headed to meet Memma and Papa at Another Broken Egg for breakfast.  We over-ordered on pancakes but that didn’t stop us from enjoying them!

I happened to remember at 9:29 am that I needed a birth minute picture of Charlotte.  This was all that she would give me at the time!

We spent the morning playing and doing crafts and Charlotte requested (and received) her first french braid.  I’ve improved since then but it was pretty ok for my first try and she was thrilled with it so that’s all that mattered!

I got both kids up from naps early to head to Charlotte’s birthday party at the local Jump place.  She has been so excited about her party for at least six months if not longer.  She was beside herself with excitement when we arrived!

Just keeping it real, this was the best family picture we got. 🙂

Charlotte was so excited to see her friends and get in to jump that she didn’t want to pause for pictures with anyone else before she went in.  I had big plans for lots more pictures after the party, but that ended up not happening.

Charlotte headed straight for the great big slide once she got in to jump and barely left it until the “unfortunate accident”.  She even talked lots of people into sliding with her!  Papa, GrandDavid, Char Char all joined in on the fun with her!  And, of course, Jason and I couldn’t miss out either!

Unfortunately, the fun quickly came to an end when Charlotte collided with her best friend from school.  Charlotte’s dress blew up over her face (not sure that it would have mattered, even if it hadn’t blown up) and she ended up hitting the back of her friend’s head.  As soon as I picked her up I saw her eye swelling and turning purple so she spent the rest of the party in my arms.  She didn’t get to enjoy her cake or eat with her friends, and I hated that, but at this point she’s kind of proud of her black eye and talks about how much fun her party was before her “unfortunate accident.”

While Charlotte and I spent the rest of the party calming down, James continued to have fun out in the bounce house!

In the way that only God can orchestrate things, Charlotte already had an eye doctor appointment scheduled for the morning after her birthday so we were able to get her eye thoroughly checked out.  Thankfully nothing was broken, and her eye was still healthy and looked good (when she could open it enough to be examined).  She was a trooper during her appointment and really acted perfectly normal from the morning she woke up after her birthday and never let her eye bother her!  It, of course, got worse before it got better, but thankfully was totally healed within eight days and gone before her dance showcase!

We’ll always have a story to tell about Charlotte’s fourth birthday, but despite her injury, it was a great day and we were so glad that we got to celebrate Charlotte!
