Meet Percy

As I mentioned in a previous post, our family was pleasantly surprised last month when we found that we were expecting baby number 3.  Jason and I couldn’t make a definite decision on whether to continue expanding our family or not, so we decided to leave it up to God who apparently thinks that I’m up to being the Mom of three kids.  I’m not sure what he’s thinking, but I’m going to trust that he’s going to supply me with what I need!

I was initially just feeling tired, but around week 6 nausea kicked in big time.  MUCH worse than either other child and I was miserable for a few weeks.  It was so bad that it became a running joke (-ish) in my family that we might be looking at four kids instead of three.  But the actual getting sick, thankfully, didn’t last more than a few weeks and my body returned to just not feeling particularly well most of the time.

When we told Charlotte that she was going to have another little brother or sister, we told her that she could “name” the baby before Jason and I gave the baby his/her forever name when we found out the gender.  We explained that we called her Mo before we knew that she was Charlotte and that we called James, Max.  She said that she would think about it and then went to sleep.  She didn’t mention anything until I was doing the dishes after lunch and she came up to me and told me she wanted to whisper something to me.  When I leaned down she said, “I think we should call the baby Percy.”  And then she turned around and walked away.

Now, weeks later, I have heard of multiple Percy’s in the world, but we weren’t into Thomas the train yet and so I had no idea where she got the name.  But she told me that it was from the book Owl Babies that Memma has.  There are three owl babies in that book and so that made a lot more sense!

So, Jason and I were excited to meet Percy at our first doctor’s appointment on September 30th.  We were relieved when the sonogram tech almost immediately mentioned that there was only one baby (she said that she always says that as soon as she knows, how nice!).  Percy’s heartbeat was 169 bpm which is similar to the other’s at 8 weeks (C-148bpm, J-161bpm).  Everything looked great and we were sent on our way with a checkup in four weeks and a due date of May 12th.

While we (I) am pretty overwhelmed at the thought of another baby in our nest, we are both so excited and so thankful for God’s blessing to our family.  Charlotte is convinced that it is a girl, although she acknowledges that it could be a boy when we remind her.  When I asked James if he wanted a baby brother or sister he said “Sister” but I don’t know that he knows what a brother is, all he knows is Sissy and she’s pretty great so why wouldn’t he want another one of her!  We’re thinking we’ll find out the gender around Christmas so until then we’ll just be waiting to hear Percy’s heartbeat again at our next appointment!
