Throw Back Thursday

12-86 3 yrs

I thought a few days before James’ third birthday would be a good time to throw back to when Jason was three. You can’t tell me that they don’t favor!  I think they would even more if their hair was the same color!  Such previous little boys!

1989 JAG First Day of Kindergarten

Since Charlotte is starting Kindergarten, I thought today would be a good time to throw back to August of 1989 and MY first day of Kindergarten.  I was in Mrs. Hand’s class at Eastwood and was very excited about going to kindergarten.  So excited, in fact, that my independence and stubbornness came out and I told Mom that I wanted to ride my bike to kindergarten BY MY SELF!  She must have been much better than I am about letting go because, while she didn’t let me go by myself, she and Charlie did ride a distance behind me and not next to me.

Mom, I’d like to go on the record and say that I am really very sorry for this show of independence at such a young age.  And your mothering skills just keep getting farther and farther off the charts and out of reach as I become a parent for longer and longer.  You WERE (and still are!) SUPERMOM and I’m so thankful for you!

In other kindergarten news, I continued by independence and would walk home from school by myself as well as the year got further in.  I vividly remember wearing my jumper with the three red, green, and (I think) blue hearts on it with a turtleneck one day to school.  And on my walk home being so hot that I was pushing my sleeves up.  As soon as I got home, Mom threw Charlie and I in the tub with the Sears wish book where we hunkered down while we heard the huge F4 tornado that struck Huntsville and caused horrific destruction go over our house.

And they say you don’t remember that age, you surely remember hearing an F4 tornado right after you get home from school!

In honor of our upcoming anniversary this weekend I wanted to share a picture from our rehearsal dinner.  We had such a wonderful weekend celebrating our marriage and were blessed to have so many friends and family join us for the celebration.  Our rehearsal dinner was held at Curry’s after the rehearsal at First Baptist and we were blessed to have most of our families in attendance as well as those helping in the wedding who meant so much to us!

family noses

This one’s from 1986, I’m guessing the summer by looking at our clothes.  I apparently had a whole set of plastic funny noses and my grandparents, great-grandparents, and aunt were great sports about putting them on.  In the back are my Papa’s parents, Gramps and Granny, who much have come down to visit from Tennessee.  Then I’m leaning against Gramme who is next to Papa (Mom’s parents) and my aunt Cathy is on the far right.

In honor of Mom’s birthday two days ago I thought I’d throw back to when she was a little girl helping cook in the kitchen.  I lover her mischievous grin in this picture and seeing her standing there with a little bowl reminds me so much of my kids “mixing” flour to “help” me cook these days.  Mom says that they were at Gramps and Granny’s house when this picture was taken.  I love seeing Mom as a little girl.  Happy birthday Mom!

4-90 1st Sweeties Game

There are times when I’m not sure that Jason thinks that I’ve ever done anything athletic in my life since I had long stopped with all of those kind of pursuits by the time we met.  But I like to remind him every now and then that I did, in fact, grow up participating in the typical youth sports.  For instance, in 1990 I had my first softball game for the Tigers!

I ended up playing softball for three years but wasn’t much of a fan of it when it got more competitive.  I also still bear a scar on my knee from one nasty fall into second base one year.  And to add a little more to my sports defenses, I also played golf for a couple years, basketball for one season, and soccer for one season.  I did gymnastics most years through middle school and danced one year.  I might not have been a pro at anything but I did try a lot!
