Being in the stationery business, I often see a lot of designs for products that I don’t currently work on. Case in point: wedding invitations. And lately I’ve been swooning over some modern designs that are gorgeous. The wedding invitation sets the tone for the whole event. It helps convey to the guests the formality of the event and the personalities of the couple.
Wedding invitations used to only be highly traditional — think thick white card stock engraved in black calligraphy. But these days, brides are embracing their personalities more and are becoming more comfortable with a more personal and relaxed invitation. Of course, you would never want to mix a very formal invitation with a casual wedding ceremony, but for those events that are a little more relaxed there is a lot more leeway for bride’s to have some fun with their invitations.
I thought today that I’d gather some examples of modern invitation designs that I have seen recently and loved. These designers typically work on custom designs which does increase the price because, often, you are receiving one of a kind invitation suites. But the quality of these will almost definitely be unsurpassed and by working with a designer directly you can work with them to create an invitation that perfectly reflects your wishes for the day. I was able to get in touch with some of the designers and their comments about these suites can be found below the images.
Rachel and Jason Suite by Julie Song Ink
“Margaux is one of our characters in the MaeMae & Co. wedding collection – a group of pre-made designs that feature ready-to-order prices, but still feel hyper customized with their strong attention to detail. Before we design each collection suite, we start with a story in mind. In Margaux’s case she is a tropical gal with a deep love for vintage ephemera. We imagine that she once opened a supper club with Elvis, but is actually more proud of her vintage travel poster collection. As seen on the website, Margaux is flat printed on thick cotton paper – but can be customized with different colors, print methods (letterpress, foil, engraving!) and illustrations.”

“Our Chalkboard and Linen Invitations were inspired by the modern couple who wants a little bit of hip, industrial edge paired with a soft, eco-natural feel. I was really drawn to the look of chalkboard signage and decided to pair that with a very natural, earthy linen fabric and floral garland accents to soften the look. Metallic gold cardstock backing and an orchid-colored taffeta ribbon added a little extra glam to the invite! This pre-designed suite that you see on our Etsy shop features our signature handcrafted and sewn fabric pockets and the paper pieces are flat printed on heavy cardstock though we are always able to customize printing (letterpress, foiling, etc.) as well as switch out any other elements of our designs.”

Peacock Wedding Invitation by All That Glitters
From Jenn at All That Glitters: This set was created for a lovely couple, Lindsay & Kyle, who had a beautiful color plan for their wedding. She wanted all of her colors featured in her invitations (purple, blue, green and silver with a touch of bling!). I use smooth, white heavy cover stock to feature the brightness of the colors.
