#InspireMe – Christmas Card Collections

#InspireMe-TalesOfAPeanut

I’m always on the lookout for ways to incorporate the things that I see in the world into new designs that fit my style. Today I thought I’d share some of these images that have gotten my mind whirling as I design my Christmas card collections for 2015!
Olive Wood Designs - #inspireme - Tales of a Peanut

I love the mix of old wood, new wood, and pattern that Olive Wood Designs is using in her projects. The distressed texture against the smooth is a wonderful contrast that gets my mind spinning into ways that I could incorporate that into my designs for the new Christmas card collections.

Norman Gordan Home - Gilded Edge Geode Necklace - #inspireme Tales of a Peanut

My Mom gave me two necklaces for my birthday that are natural stones with a gilded edge and they’ve become some of my favorites. This one from Norman Gordon Home has the same edge and I love the contrast of the rich colors with the shiny gold. Using vibrant colors but throwing in a pop of gold is something I’m trying to work out for my Christmas card designs. It can make an otherwise flat design pop!

Jennifer Hayslip - Christmas Home Glamour Style - #inspireme Tales of a Peanut

While I love the traditional red and green of Christmas, I have also been drawn lately to more non-traditional colors like this frosty turquoise, pink, and blue. Jennifer Hayslip did an excellent job decorating her home in these non-traditional colors and documented it on her blog. My mind is spinning now!

Elevate Conference - Design By Tales of a Peanut

After working with the wonderful ladies of Elevate Everyday on their design work for their May conference I am constantly thinking about how I can incorporate black and white stripes along with bright colors in my Christmas collections. Look for lots of glamour options!

Color Crush: Red, White, and Blue

Color Crush Tales of a Peanut

In the spirit of Independence Day I thought I’d share some of my favorite Red, White, and Blue finds!

ShePlans Navy Polka Dot PlannerShePlans 2015-2016 Monthly Planner – Navy Polka Dot – $36

Keep up with all your to-do’s with this navy blue and white polka dot planner. The planner has monthly pages and then lined sheets instead of weekly pages which is a big draw for me since I always need room to jot notes but feel like weekly pages are wasted space!

Polka Dot Paper Company Lost Tooth Date Chart

Polka Dot Paper Company – Lost Tooth Record Chart – $2.50

This white lost tooth chart would be perfect to record Charlotte’s lost teeth. And what a neat keepsake to stick in her memory box for when she gets older!

LifeCreatedShop Tomato in ColanderLife Created Shop – Tomatoes in Strainer – $10

This red, white, and blue print would be perfect to frame in your kitchen. Bright colors, a crisp image, yummy looking fruit/veggies — the perfect kitchen accent!

Thimblepress Popsicle Print

Thimblepress – Popsicle Print – $20

This fun popsicle print would look adorable in a kids bathroom. And the colors would work for boys or girls!

Paper+Oats Chores and Reward Charts for Kids

Paper + Oats – Chores and Reward Charts for Kids – $5

I love all of Kelsey’s printable sets but this one might be the one I need most. Chores and reward charts are right where we are with our kids and having a way to put it on paper so that I don’t always have to the bad guy would be a great boon to our summer enjoyment!

Hope you enjoyed these patriotic finds! I’d love to know of any red, white, and/or blue items that you’re crushing on these days!

PS All of these products are from some of the ladies attending Stationery Academy with me later this month! Keep up with all of our fun on Instagram with #StatAcad!

Color Crush – Lipstick and Turquoise

I’m going to start a new semi-regular feature called “Color Crush” where I share some color combinations that I’m loving. Today’s is Lipstick and Turquoise!

Flutter-Lipstick---Tales-of-a-Peanut-Color-CrushI created the Flutter plate for Easter but it looks stunner on a larger scale on a placemat. The watercolor effect on the wings and stripes is gorgeous. And when a customer wanted to pair it on one side of a placemat with the Daring Dahlia design on the other…I was sold. It’s a gorgeous combo that is bright and airy and looks great when printed on anything!

Daring Dahlia Lipstick - Tales of a Peanut Color Crush

You can purchase both of these placemats in the shop. The watercolor is named Flutter and the Floral is Daring Dahlia.

What you would like to see this color combination on next? Let me know and it might be my next design!

Wedding Invitations for the Modern Bride

Wedding Invitations for the Modern Bride

Being in the stationery business, I often see a lot of designs for products that I don’t currently work on. Case in point: wedding invitations. And lately I’ve been swooning over some modern designs that are gorgeous. The wedding invitation sets the tone for the whole event. It helps convey to the guests the formality of the event and the personalities of the couple.

Wedding invitations used to only be highly traditional — think thick white card stock engraved in black calligraphy. But these days, brides are embracing their personalities more and are becoming more comfortable with a more personal and relaxed invitation. Of course, you would never want to mix a very formal invitation with a casual wedding ceremony, but for those events that are a little more relaxed there is a lot more leeway for bride’s to have some fun with their invitations.

I thought today that I’d gather some examples of modern invitation designs that I have seen recently and loved. These designers typically work on custom designs which does increase the price because, often, you are receiving one of a kind invitation suites. But the quality of these will almost definitely be unsurpassed and by working with a designer directly you can work with them to create an invitation that perfectly reflects your wishes for the day. I was able to get in touch with some of the designers and their comments about these suites can be found below the images.

MaeMae Margeaux Wedding InvitationMargaux by MaeMae & Co

“Margaux is one of our characters in the MaeMae & Co. wedding collection – a group of pre-made designs that feature ready-to-order prices, but still feel hyper customized with their strong attention to detail. Before we design each collection suite, we start with a story in mind. In Margaux’s case she is a tropical gal with a deep love for vintage ephemera. We imagine that she once opened a supper club with Elvis, but is actually more proud of her vintage travel poster collection. As seen on the website, Margaux is flat printed on thick cotton paper – but can be customized with different colors, print methods (letterpress, foil, engraving!) and illustrations.”

Blue Magpie Chalkboard Wedding InvitationsChalkboard Invitations by Blue Magpie Invites

“Our Chalkboard and Linen Invitations were inspired by the modern couple who wants a little bit of hip, industrial edge paired with a soft, eco-natural feel. I was really drawn to the look of chalkboard signage and decided to pair that with a very natural, earthy linen fabric and floral garland accents to soften the look. Metallic gold cardstock backing and an orchid-colored taffeta ribbon added a little extra glam to the invite! This pre-designed suite that you see on our Etsy shop features our signature handcrafted and sewn fabric pockets and the paper pieces are flat printed on heavy cardstock though we are always able to customize printing (letterpress, foiling, etc.) as well as switch out any other elements of our designs.”

Britt & Peter Shine InvitationsBritt & Peter by Shine Invitations

“This design was created with a romantic, sweet, yet tasteful wedding in mind. All of our designs are created with an eye towards timeless style. We create invites that are fresh and modern, but go beyond the trends and instead have a timeless look that will stay beautiful for decades to come. Our paper and materials are thick and luxe, and we print using a top of the line digital press ensuring bold saturated color and crisp text.”

All That Glitters Peacock Wedding InvitationPeacock Wedding Invitation by All That Glitters

From Jenn at All That Glitters: This set was created for a lovely couple, Lindsay & Kyle, who had a beautiful color plan for their wedding. She wanted all of her colors featured in her invitations (purple, blue, green and silver with a touch of bling!). I use smooth, white heavy cover stock to feature the brightness of the colors.

Faithful

I read this post by Melanie this morning and saved it so I could listen to the song during naptime.  No matter where you are today maybe you, like me, need to be reminded that God is faithful.
