The Start of Our Favorite Fall Tradition

Now that we’ve got our first round of trips to Tuscaloosa under our belts I thought I’d share with you our first two games of the season.  As the kids get older we’re finding it harder and harder to get everyone to the games, but we successfully took both kids to two of the three home games games and only kept James home for one which felt smack dab in the middle of nap time.

Since our schedule was kind of strange, we actually headed to Texas for a game before heading to Tuscaloosa. My parents took Jason and I along with my brother Charlie out for the game against Texas A&M.  It was a very quick trip and, let’s just say that my memories of Kyle Field are less than favorable.  #1, it was over 100 degrees and I was just starting to get the first trimester nausea.  #2, the stadium is incredibly old and trying to get to a restroom or concession stand literally left you packed face to back with people and concerned that if there was an emergency you might get trampled.  And #3, they have live horses that aren’t potty trained which leaves a certain aroma that this preggo could have done without.  Regardless, it was quite an experience and we came home with a win so that was exciting!

We then headed down for our home opener against Colorado State.  It was a 6:30 pm kick so we knew that we wouldn’t stay for the whole game, but by that point my morning (i.e. all day) sickness was in full force and the exhaustion was at record levels.  We managed to stick around through the band’s halftime show, only because of our children’s obsessions with the sparkly cheerleaders (i.e. Crimsonettes) and the band’s really big hats.  The kids did surprisingly well but part of that could have been because we kept them occupied with their own personal bags of popcorn throughout the entire first half!

We were treated to the most spectacular sunset during the game.  It was so gorgeous!  This is a picture that Jason got on his phone…unbelievable.
